Here's the best article I've found yet on the current "bee crisis":
Please Lord, not the bees

Good (preliminary) news, hives that are affected seem to be commercial hives where, 1) the brood combs in the hives are "tweaked" so that the worker bees are as much as 50% larger, 2) where the hives are transported often which allows for "pollination services" to be provided to growers. Apparently, organic beekeepers who don't use pesticides and special bee food, allow the bees to remain normal, and don't move the hives aren't having the problem.
